Walter F. Lucansky
(1938 - 1999)
Born and raised in Chicago, Walt earned an undergraduate degree in mathematics from Northwestern University in 1960 and an MBA from the Illinois Institute of Technology in 1973. Throughout his professional career, he worked as a systems analyst for several companies with large computer networks.
Walt Lucansky was a man defined not by his career, but by his passions. He loved to draw, paint and make crafts. One of his artworks (and gifts) includes a playful image of flora and fauna painted on a large screen at the Ecology Center. Additionally, he created a drawing that was used for the cover of KEB's Directory of Recycling Options.
He enjoyed gardening and being outdoors. Walt volunteered much of his free time helping both the Evanston Ecology Center and Keep Evanston Beautiful. His excellent organizational skills, artistic talents and gregarious personality were assets for both organizations. Walt always tried to reuse or recycle as much as he could. He believed in the motto: "One person's junk is another's treasure."
The Walter Lucansky Environmental Stewardship Award is a fitting tribute to a man who was a treasure to the family, friends and community he loved. Thank you, Walt!
